A great adventure through the forests and snow-capped Patagonian valleys!
A trekking through enclosed Fuegian woods, lakes, rivers, large bieber's dam and immense mountain valleys of the Andean mountain range, arriving at a beautiful and frozen lagoon. All this with the characteristic white of winter.
We left Ushuaia at 9am for the valleys.
Arriving at the starting point of the trail the guide gives us a brief instruction to know a little more about than we will experience in the 4.7km trekking to the lagoon.
Depending on the conditions of the terrain on the day, we put the crampons on our feet and follow the path.
We enter now in a dense forest of Lenga, full of snow. We come across frozen streams.
We see the work of the beavers on the way. They are trees with their trunks gnawed and large chestnut trees. We heard from the guide a bit about the characteristics of fauna and flora of the region.
After a 2 hour walk with stops to take water, we arrived at Laguna Esmeralda!
Place that in summer is a huge green lagoon, in the winter turns an imposing lake of ice. The landscape is changing with the passing of time, worth visiting at each of these different times.
At the beginning of winter, with the arrival of the cold, the lagoon freezes. A thick layer of ice covers the lagoon, being possible to walk on the green and beautiful lake. When the snowfall arrives, the frozen lake is covered with snow and little by little you can no longer see its green color.
The lagoon is fed by the imposing Ojo del Albino glacier, which configure one of the most beautiful postcards of the Argentine Patagonia. Upon reaching the lagoon, we can see the mountains where the glacier is just behind the lagoon.
Taking advantage of the beautiful landscape, we serve a complete snack. We also open a delicious regional liqueur for a tasting and a warm heart while we listen to more about this place and culture so rich.
With the energies restored, we start our walk back.
An indescribable ride. Suitable for all ages.
