A beautiful and classic navigation through the famous Beagle Channel!
On this tour, we are pleased to observe sea lions and local birds - some of them are very similar to penguins, as well as perfect landscapes and a beautiful view of the Andes.
But the most awaited moment of the day is the visit to Martillo Island, where we descend from the boat to walk with the penguins in their natural habitat!
We embark on the tourist port of the Beagle Channel. The channel is cut in half by an imaginary line that divides Argentina and Chile. Thus, we sail through Argentine waters, but we also enjoy the mountains on the Chilean side of the canal.
At the beginning of navigation, we can enjoy the beautiful "Bahía Ushuaia" and observe the privileged position of the city, which is surrounded by magnificent mountains and glaciers.
On the way, we pass by the Island of the Birds, where we admire several Fuegian marine birds, such as skuas, albatrosses, seagulls, cauquenes and ducks.
We arrive at the famous Lobos Island, which houses two types of sea lions. Along with them, you can also spot cormorants, which are often confused with penguins.
Navigating a bit further, we arrive at the emblematic Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. There are other colonies of cormorants, both the imperial and the rockers.
Throughout the course, the guide tells us a little about the local history and also about the animals and islands that we see.
After the lighthouse, we have an hour's sail to Harberton Resort. On this route, we can also see the southernmost town of the planet, Puerto Williams, which is already on the Chilean side until arriving at Estancia Harberton. It was the first resort on the island, having been founded in 1886 by Thomas Bridges and is located on the banks of the Beagle Channel.
We met the resort and headed to the Acatushuin Museum of Birds and Southern Mammals, near the pier. In this museum we can see the bones of whales, penguins, sea lions and dolphins.
We then set off for the most anticipated part of our adventure: the Martillo Island. We entered a semirigid boat, where we sailed for about 20 minutes until we reached the island, where we disembarked.
Arriving there we see thousands of penguins !! A really special tour !! We walked for 1h between the different species of penguins (mainly penguins Papúase de Magallanes). We see beautiful puppies, with their gray coat, newly born in their nests, we can see them in their various stages of life. A really exciting and contagious adventure !!
In summer, penguins settle on the island, along with other birds such as skuas, petrels, cormorants and seagulls. Therefore, besides living during our time on the island with the wonderful penguins, we also see these birds endemic to southern Patagonia.
A truly enriching experience. On the way back, we stop to see the typical and famous Flag Trees and return to Ushuaia with the certainty that this day was unforgettable!
